Kyoto: A Landscape Meditation, Hiroshi Masaki’s second book, includes a series of personal, thoughtful, and deeply formal photographs of Kyoto. Impressed by the traditional beauty and simple design of Kyoto’s temples, shrines, and gardens, Masaki depicts the city as a place of spirituality, meditation, and profound history.

The book includes two texts, in both Japanese and English, the first by Simon Baker, Curator of Photography and International Art at the Tate, and the second by the artist himself.

Born in Uwajima, Japan, in 1949, Hiroshi Masaki graduated from Waseda University in 1973. He is an expert in the fields of modern illustrated books and art and of avant-garde and postwar Japanese photography. He is the author of Uwajima: A Private Landscape, published in 2012 (RM + Toluca Éditions).
