Toni Catany (Llucmajor, Mallorca, 1942 – Barcelona, 2013) is unquestionably one of the leading figures of contemporary photography, thanks to a timeless body of work imbued with a pictorial quality in which classic themes predominate — the still life, the portrait, the nude and the landscape — all approached with his personal sensibility and aesthetic.
His life and his work could be defined as an incessant succession of comings and goings between Llucmajor and Barcelona, between the Mediterranean and the rest of the world, between interior and exterior, between projects and memories, between classical techniques and the latest technology. These movements, incessant and complementary, feed off each other in a passionate quest: to glorify beauty and harmony, to discover art in everyday life, to create links, to build bridges and to find similarities, sometimes surprising ones.
