The photographs show quiet and decelerated images of our country's landscapes, which seemingly oppose the speed and constant change of our globalized present. The precisely designed sections, composition and structures of these abandoned places reveal an image space that works with moments of memory and expands the simple, seemingly everyday subjects into our own history. The interpretation of topographical and typological approaches to photography and the serial nature of his work always meet a visual-psychological reading of the place. In this way, the social changes in these special cultural spaces between town and country and between yesterday and today can become visible. In these “visual time periods” complex concepts such as home and memory can be expressed g reinterpret it in a special, documentary way. Using this photographic approach, Henry Schulz creates a valid study of places and landscapes, a representation of their aura and transformation through time and us humans. The photographs in the “people things” series were taken by Henry Schulz between 2020 and 2023, mainly in Germany.

Henry Schulz was born in Hamburg in 1996 and moved to Berlin in 2016 to work as a freelance photographer. From 2018 to 2022 he studied photography at the Ostkreuzschule for Photography in Berlin. With people things, he presents his first photo book, which presents a selection of his serial landscape photographs, which were taken between 2020 and 2023, primarily in Germany.
