The Habitations à Bon Marché (HBM) district of Belle Assise in Clermont de l'Oise was built in the mid-1930s, following the promulgation of the Loucheur law in 1928, allowing the financing of numerous housing units for the working classes. From 1936, the houses of Belle Assise were rented, then offered for purchase to residents from the end of the 1960s. Divided into six different types, the smallest houses initially had only two rooms in addition to the bathrooms (kitchen and toilets) for a surface area of 29 m2 and three bedrooms and an attic in addition to the living room for the larger ones whose initial surface area was 67 m2. Over the past twenty years, they have undergone numerous transformations to bring them up to date and correspond to contemporary lifestyles.
