The agglomeration pictures of Peter Fischli and David Weiss are made so that we learn to see the dullness and gleam of the suburban, so that our eyes are opened to the all-pervading but hardly definable atmosphere of this region in the middle of the edge of the world: clusters of modern balcony-clad dwellings, forsythia-yellow-blazing car parks, totally renovated village centres at the crossroads of two arterial roads — all this, in the changing seasons, as if enchanted into the hyper-profane. The camera-gaze they cast “always from eye level” on the most real of all our lifeworlds between town and country.
