The new book by Ed Templeton (b.1972), professional skateboarder and artist based in Huntington Beach, California. Coming to Grips is a selection of photographs from his ongoing series tentatively titled "Wires Crossed" which is 15 years of documenting skateboarders and the lifestyle surrounding them. Some of this series was included in my first major book, "The Golden Age of Neglect" but the majority of this work is yet to be published. Coming to Grips represents a some of the newer photographs I have taken for this body of work as well as some older ones. As a professional skateboarder I get unprecedented access to my subjects and instead of looking in from the outside, I am able to see from within this rich culture that tells many stories of youth and fame that expand beyond the small world of skateboarding and speak of human commonalities.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
