Silence is the first instalment of a long-planned trilogy by Ayaco Nakamura, creator of the loveable character 'Usalyman'. We all come into the world naked and our death is inevitable, and this view of life and death runs through the trilogy 'Silence', 'Birth' and 'Daylight'. Animal bones once alive and breathing now seated in a museum, trees reflected and swaying on the night water, a bouquet in close-up, a school of sardines in an aquarium and the light glimpsed beyond them: 'Silence' focuses on a world of darkness where sound seems to vanish, photographing honestly what is seen in that darkness.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
