Book 6 in the series East London Photo Stories

Two summers in the mid-1980s spent photographing drivers stuck in traffic jams in and around east London. The series was the author's first on colour film, made when he had intended to document the privatisation of Rolls Royce and instead became fascinated by the faces in the traffic the sell-off caused in the city. The cars, the colours, the haircuts and the expressions of frustration catch the mood of a particular era.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
