“Changing Room” investigates the question of gender identity through one of the most influential cultural phenomena in the world: the game of football. Chiara Calgaro begins her photographic exploration starting from the team she is part of - a self-managed, self-financed reality made up of women*, trans and non-binary people - and proceeds through a trip to Europe to discover other queer teams. With their faces often not visible, the bodies of the athlete bend, contort, perform for the camera just as each individual "stages" during their lives practices that should correspond to the gender assigned since birth. Through the implementation of parody gestures, the artist suggests the possibility of rethinking gender identity in a more multifaceted and complex narrative, which pervades social spaces starting from the dimension of the game. The locker room of a football team can become a test microcosm in which to build alternative practices to those dominant in society and suggest new forms of collectivity and participation, using the most popular sport in the world as a tool for self-determination.
