Italian / English text

The author explores the generational disconnect of the new town and, through it, the lost memories of old Gibellina. With the weight of history on their shoulders, it is now the task of the new generation to carry the story of a home they never knew. For this book, the fragmentation of memory is evident in the archive images that Iannello projects onto the walls of the Grande Cretto. Here, and in these photographs, the lives of the past merge with the arid stone weave of the present. In these images Iannello depicts the streets, daily life and faces of Gibellina before the earthquake. A nostalgic image is born of an idealised town that, in the author's photographs, is crumbling together with the walls of Burri's Cretto.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
